About One True Story At A Time
One True Story At A Time was created for gay women and the people who love and support them.
We share our stories in the hope that they not merely entertain but enlighten and inspire as well.
We hope that in doing so, some who may be struggling alone will find a safe space to ponder and the courage to carry on in their journey.
We believe in the power of storytelling and story sharing. Perhaps in sharing and listening to one another, we may discover that regardless of race, religion, culture or orientation, deep down we may not be so different after all.
A Message From One True Story Founder, Pauline Ong
I grew up and still live in Asia. Realizing you are gay and living in a conservative, homophobic culture can be quite challenging, to say the least. Growing up, I felt desperately alone and very different from my friends. I was terrified of anyone finding out that I might be gay.
Well, things have changed somewhat. There is a lot more visibility in the media now and there is a plethora of information on the Internet. But many of these sites originate in the US, Europe or Australia. There are very few websites for gay people in Asia. There are even fewer sites for women. So if you are from South Asia (eg. India, Nepal), East Asia (eg. China, Japan) or Southeast Asia (eg. Indonesia, Singapore) you may be wondering how other women are making sense of who they are in relation to their family, culture and religion in this part of the world.
I have come to realize that courage is contagious. I know this is true because if you told me 5 years ago that I will be starting a website in support of gay women everywhere, I would have thought you were out of your mind. But over the years, my life has been inspired and touched by the courage of many people, both gay and straight. People who believe there is nothing wrong with loving someone and being loved, no matter what your gender. People who speak up for what they believe in even when they are surrounded by negative voices. People, both gay and straight who believe in the equality of all.
As you take time to listen, may you be inspired to live courageously and perhaps even share your own story in due time.
We can change our world....one true story at a time.

Definition of 'Courage'
The word courage comes from the original Latin word "cor", meaning heart. It originally meant to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart.
